A link building service finds sites worth getting a link from, gets someone there to agree, and confirms the link went live. That's the whole job. The price gap between SEO link building services mostly comes down to who does the finding, how much of it you get to see, and whether anyone checks the link after the invoice is paid.

The r/localseo thread asking which SEO link building services people actually had results with is blunt about the average. u/Alexv_92, who tested several providers, wrote: "Most of the time, they offer placements on sites that either openly sell backlinks or participate in abc exchanges." u/sunsettiger41 added that "random low-quality links rarely move the needle."

Commenters in that thread name backlink providers across a wide price range: Promopilot at about $30 a placement by one buyer's account, LinksThatRank, Linkifi, Loganix, The HOTH, and Citation Labs' local sponsorships at about $500 each plus the sponsorship fee. Those figures are theirs and we haven't checked them against quotes. The same thread has as many complaints as recommendations.
