What "building" means when the work is real

The word does a lot of hiding in this market. For an automated tool, building means firing the same generic payload at a few hundred forms and counting the submissions rather than the acceptances. For us it means a person opening a directory, reading what it wants, choosing the right category, writing a description that fits the format, and submitting.

The difference shows up in the acceptance rate, not the submission count, and it's the reason we report live URLs rather than a total. A listing that was submitted and rejected isn't a backlink, and any service that reports the first number instead of the second is choosing the flattering one.

What a hundred directory links do, and what they don't

They give a new product something a crawler can find it through. Before the first batch, a product that launched last month usually has a handful of referring domains, and most of them are its own subdomains and a Product Hunt page. After it, there are a hundred independent, indexed pages that name the product and describe what it does.

What they don't do is move you past an established competitor on a competitive keyword. Referring domain count is one input among many, and we won't quote you a Domain Rating figure because nobody can honestly predict one. What we can tell you is exactly how many real, live listings you'll have, because that's the part we control.

Building it yourself

The database is free. All 1,287+ directories are browsable and filterable by DR, price and link type without an account, and there's a free tracker to log your progress as you go. Plenty of founders do exactly this and it works.

The reason to pay us is hours. A careful manual submission runs a few minutes each once you've found the directory, read its rules and adapted your copy, and a hundred of those is a real week of work. At $99 for the Starter package that's about a dollar per listing for the labour, which is the entire pitch.
