How to tell a good link building firm from a reseller
A link building company finds pages worth a link, gets the person who runs each one to agree, and proves the link went live. Firms mostly differ in where the sites come from. Plenty of link building agencies resell the same marketplace inventory under their own name, which is why quotes from two different firms can list the same sites.

That's one buyer's experience, so don't read it as a ranking. Whoever ends up on your shortlist, ask four things: where the sites come from, whether you approve each one, whether the links are dofollow, and what happens when a link is removed.

Is this cheaper than hiring a link building firm?
Usually. In the r/localseo thread, one commenter described a service at about $4,000 a month aimed mostly at SaaS, and per-link estimates in an r/SEO thread on cost ran from $50 to over $1,000. The agent is $49 a month on Starter, $99 on Pro and $199 on Growth, with no per-link fee.
