What a domain rating checker actually tells you
Domain Rating is a 0 to 100 estimate of how strong a website's backlink profile is. It rises when other sites link to you, and it rises faster when those sites are themselves well linked. The scale is logarithmic, so climbing from 20 to 30 takes far less work than climbing from 70 to 80.
Any website authority checker, whether it reports Domain Rating, Domain Authority or an authority score, is doing the same job with its own maths. The numbers will not line up across tools, so pick one and follow your own trend instead of comparing a score from one provider against a score from another.
What the number cannot tell you is whether a link is worth having. A high rating on a site that has nothing to do with your niche is a weak signal. Read the score alongside referring domains and relevance before you pitch, pay or submit.

Frequently asked questions
Is this DR checker free?
Yes. Checking a domain on this page is free with no signup, and the optional Chrome extension is free to install from the Chrome Web Store.
What is Domain Rating (DR)?
Domain Rating is a 0 to 100 score that estimates how strong a website's backlink profile is, so a higher number means a stronger profile. It is a third-party estimate rather than an official Google ranking factor, which makes it most useful for comparing sites against each other.
Is a DR checker the same as a website authority checker?
In practice, yes. Domain Rating, Domain Authority and similar website authority scores all try to summarise backlink strength in one 0 to 100 number. Each vendor calculates it differently, so the scores will not match exactly across tools. Use one consistently and watch the trend rather than mixing numbers from different providers.
Where does the score come from?
Ratings are looked up from the Open PageRank API, which is built on the Common Crawl web graph. Only the domain name is sent, for example example.com, never full URLs, page content, cookies or personal data.
Can I check more than one domain at a time?
Not on this page, which is built for a single domain and its trend. For a list, use the free Bulk Domain Authority Checker at backlinkbot.ai/tools/bulk-dr-checker, which handles up to 100 domains in one run and exports the results to CSV.
Does the Chrome extension work on Google search results?
Yes. On Google search pages it reads the domains of the results and shows an authority badge next to each one, so you can compare pages at a glance.
Does it store or track my data?
No. Nothing is stored on our servers and there is no analytics or tracking in the extension. The only data saved is an optional API key you can enter, kept locally in your browser.
Which browsers are supported?
It is a Chrome extension, so it works on Chrome and other Chromium browsers such as Brave, Edge, and Arc.
