Disavow Tool
A Google tool that lets website owners tell Google to ignore bad or spammy links pointing to their site. It helps prevent penalty from low-quality backlinks you can't remove.
The Disavow Tool is Google's way of letting website owners say "don't count these links" when calculating their site's rankings. It's used when your site has harmful backlinks that you've tried but failed to get removed directly. By submitting a disavow file, you're essentially telling Google: "I don't want these links to affect my site, please ignore them." Using this tool should be approached with caution—it's considered an advanced feature for experienced users. Before disavowing links, you should first try to get them removed by contacting the websites directly. Only links that are clearly manipulative or spammy should be disavowed. Natural links, even from lower-quality sites, generally don't need to be disavowed unless they're truly harmful. To use the Disavow Tool, you'll need to create a text file listing the URLs or domains you want Google to ignore, then upload it through Google Search Console. The process takes time to have an effect, and there's no immediate feedback on whether it worked. This tool should be part of a broader strategy to clean up your backlink profile, not a quick fix for ranking problems.
